Is your dancer ready to commence pointe work?

Commencing pointe work is one of the most exciting milestones in a young dancer's life, but going en-pointe places significant demands on a growing body. Before taking that step, it is worth making sure your dancer is truly ready.

A Pre-Pointe Assessment is a thorough, individualised evaluation of your dancer's readiness for pointe work, conducted with care and expertise, and following international best practice.

It is never about holding a dancer back. It is about setting them up for success — and protecting the body they will need for the rest of their life.

What is a pre-pointe assessment?

Every dancer is unique, which is why I look at the whole picture. Biomechanical screening covers:

  • Foot mobility

  • Foot and lower leg strength and control

  • Control and use of turnout

  • Postural alignment and pelvic position

  • Trunk strength and control

  • General health and injury history

  • Growth profile, including height, weight and growth trajectory to understand where your dancer is in their physical development

  • A variety of simple ballet technique tasks

What I assess:

What happens after the assessment?

You will receive a detailed written report emailed directly to you and your dancer's teacher. If any areas of concern are identified, I will design a personalised home programme to help address this, and I will communicate directly with your dancer's teacher so everyone is working toward the same goal: keeping your dancer safe, strong, and moving forward.

Follow-up appointments are available as needed.

“Programmes are designed with a clear understanding that young dancers and their families are very busy. Time is precious, and any home programme I design will complement your dancer's existing training without placing an unrealistic burden on their schedule.

This process is not about passing or failing.
It is about working together — with dancers, parents, and teachers — toward an exciting and important goal.”

"Think of the magic of the foot, comparatively small, upon which your whole weight rests. It's a miracle, and the dance is a celebration of that miracle."
